The child was struck by a bullet aimed at a nearby vehicle, police say. Police create a crime scene perimeter at First Street and Dryades St where a car was shot up in apparent drive-by a block away from the 126th annual Young Men Olympian, Jr. Benevolent Association second line parade in the Central City neighborhood in New Orleans, La. Sunday September 26, 2010. NOPD officers covering the parade and a member of the YMO Jr. group walked over to offer assistance, but the shooting was unrelated to the second line parade whose route did not include this street.
Jeremy Galmon, who was in a third car not involved in the gunplay, died at 3:47 p.m. from a gunshot wound to the face after being taken to the LSU Trauma Center, coroner's office chief investigator John Gagliano said.

The shooting happened about 2:30 p.m. at First and Dryades streets, said New Orleans Police Department spokesman Garry Flot.
Police were nearby, patrolling the Young Men Olympian Junior Benevolent Association second-line parade, which had already passed down Dryades to Second Street when the shooting occurred.
Investigators said one shooter emerged from a dark blue four-door vehicle, possibly an older-model Chevrolet Impala, and began firing at the occupants of a second vehicle traveling nearby.
At least one shot struck the 2-year-old, who was in a parked car, police said.
The suspect got back into the blue vehicle, which drove off. An officer chased the car but lost it as it headed west on Interstate 10, New Orleans Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said.
No one was known to be injured in the second car involved in the gunplay, which police also lost when it left the scene, Flot said.
Flot said police found a gun at the scene and are determining whether it was used in the incident.
Police have not apprehended any suspects, and no witnesses have come forward, Serpas said. Officials said the shooting was not related to the second-line parade.
At the crime scene Sunday evening, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Serpas urged people to report anything they know about the shooting.
"The criminal justice system will not work if people don't come forward," Landrieu said.
Alison McCrary, who volunteers with the Louisiana Justice Institute in conjunction with second-line parades, said she heard eight gunshots at the time of the incident.
"It's a shame that this happened on a Sunday, right in front of a church," McCrary said, pointing to the First Street United Methodist Church at the intersection.
She also pointed out the irony of a sign nearby that read, "May Peace Prevail." A Martin Luther King Jr. quote was also painted on a bench nearby: "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish as fools."
